Education Philosophy and Goals

St. Matthew’s is committed to helping each child realize his or her potential spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially and physically.

Academic Goals

St. Matthew’s curriculum is designed to provide students a strong foundation in all the basics including:

Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, Music, Art, Physical Education, Spanish language and Computer Technology

St. Matthew’s also helps students to master the tools they’ll need to be successful after they leave our school. Those skills include:

• Critical thinking
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to solve problems as part of a team
• Self-confidence

Spiritual Formation Goals

Faith formation is an integral part of the experience at St. Matthew’s School. Beginning with the Kindergarten year students are guided in developing a positive relationship with Jesus and the community.

• 2nd –8th grade student attend mass bi-weekly and participate in other forms of community worship.
• Kindergarten & 1st grade students attend mass monthly and meet with Fr. Adrian at other times during the month.
• We follow the Religon Standards set forth by the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
• Sacramental preparation is offered through the St. Matthew’s parish community outside of the school day.

Service to Others

Each grade level participates in a minimum of one service-learning project each year. These projects, geared for each grade level, may include:

• Food drives
• Hat and mitten collection
• Visits with the elders at Cerenity (formerly Wilder) Care Center
• A pen pal program for homebound seniors.
• Annual Christmas Adopt-A-Family
