St. Matthew's Parish Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes
March 27, 2003

Present:  Fr. Steve, L. Sellars, B. Montgomery, K. Goldenstein, J. Gilberg, S. Clarke, J. Sekevich, M. Olson

Others Present:  M. Edwards

Absent:  W. Nelson, T.Jack, D. Kennedy, J. Finnegan, P. Kempe

Listening Sunday:  Suggestions received from parishioners include information on Pledge statements getting by the first of the year with reminders being sent out shortly thereafter.  Concerns were raised about a need for a nursery.  The prevailing attitude from Council and Fr. Steve is there is no need for a nursery.  A “mini-statement” of each parish department could be made available for parishioners was mentioned in a previous meeting, another request for parish budget has been made.

EAC Committee Report:  Possible partnership with Neighborhood House (NH) & St. Matthew’s Child Care Center (CC) not happening.  NH will close their daycare operation by 4-11.  NH is sending referrals our way for those who will be displaced.  Additional staff from NH could be joining the CC staff as well.

Finance Committee Report:  Department budgets being drafted at this time.  Some topics of note include the salary raise VS paying 100% of benefits.  Finance requested Council establish committee to study and propose changes to employee compensation structure.    D. Kennedy, J. Sekevich, and S. Clarke tagged to serve on said committee, whereupon they will develop a draft budget at April meeting after all data is in.

Development Director (DD):  Compensation for DD will be partially covered by Capital Campaign Committee (up to $20K in salary)  Applicants could come from a variety of sources.  Fr. Steve will still announce the search for a DD, through an article in the Bulletin or at Mass.  Should be interviewing candidates by mid-May.

Parish Enrichment:  Reflections on Vatican II conference held on Sunday evening, March 30, will be video taped and copies of recordings made available for purchase.  Further advertisement of this recording may be made in Catholic Spirit and on the St-Matts.org web site.

Changing Bylaws for upcoming elections:  Discussion relating to defining the selection process for Parish leadership positions, retaining current process VS changing to a different selection process (The Quaker’s silent prayer discernment process being another model). Further review will result in suspension of council elections for this year.  Existing Council members will study discernment process.

Meeting adjourned 9:20 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Marty Olson, Secretary, Parish Council
